Normal Personal Firewall - features
Some
of the features in Norman personal Firewall include the following:
Full
support for TCP/IP and standard modem dialup connections
This
means that it can be used in all regular networks and telephone
systems.
Disabling
of file browsing based on rules
This
feature is very useful for detection and prevention of unauthorized
persons trying to access shared files/directories on your computer.
This can happen while you are connected to the LAN or the Internet.
Norman
Personal Firewall will notify you if someone is trying to get
access to your files, and you can decide whether to accept this
or block it.
Ability
to block applications attempting to access the Internet.
This
feature may prevent you from being a part of a DDoS attack. It
also blocks unauthorized users taking control over your PC using
trojans. Attempts to send out personal information like credit
card number, passwords etc. from your PC are also stopped.

Blocking based on site rules
Malicious
ActiveX controls, JavaScripts and Java applets can be stopped
from getting access to your system.
These
scripts and applets can be essential for some features in certain
web sites, but you have to trust the sites you allow to execute
these “programs” on your system. With the Norman Personal Firewall
you can set up rules for which sites you trust enough to allow
this, and to block all the others.
Cookies
Manager based on site rules
Web
servers place text files on your computer that may give the web
sites that set such cookies, lots of information about your surfing
habits. They log things like how many times you have entered that
particular web site, which AD banners you have seen and/or followed
the link to. This can also, however, make your surfing more convenient,
since it stores your preferences.
Norman
Personal Firewall lets you decide which sites shall be allowed
to store cookies on your computer, and blocks the rest.
Blocking
Banner Advertisements
The
Norman Personal Firewall is also able to block such announcements
which are considered annoying by lots of web surfers. This speeds
up the download time from the different web sites since they are
not able to send you the ad banners.
The
Norman Personal Firewall Wizard will guide you through the procedures
of setting up rules. This feature will make your surfing easier
and safer.
Rules
editor

editor feature lets you edit site rules that have previously been
made if you want to modify settings. It might be that you now
trust a previously banned site etc.
